Perinatal Care
The time during and after pregnancy can be one of the most wonderful, but also the most difficult—and strangest—chapters of a woman’s life. Everything changes. Our priorities, our relationships, and our very identities all shift dramatically and suddenly, leaving us feeling disoriented, drained, isolated, and sometimes grieving the self we have lost. While the rest of the world goes about its business, women are left to navigate this wild unknown alone, with an expectation that they do it with a smile on their face and gratitude in their heart.
The truth is, our society is not set up to support perinatal women. Families might be far-flung, partners uninformed, and services inadequate. Excellent mental health care can make the difference between finding a healthy way into this new reality and sinking into clinical anxiety, depression, or worse.
I am proud to call several members of my clinical team perinatal experts. They are therapists with specific training in women’s health and a passion for stepping up for their perinatal clients when others can’t or don’t know how. They help their clients process tough, sometimes deeply conflicting, feelings, learn to understand and accept their new reality, and reconnect with their core self, a true source of power.
Women who make space for themselves before, during, and after pregnancy are smart. They understand that they “can’t do this alone,” and why should they? They have a right to receive the kind of high-quality care and compassion that will pay dividends for years to come, and an opportunity to do things differently than women often feel pressured to do.
Establishing a Connection
You and your therapist are about to embark on a deep and meaningful journey. The very first task at hand is developing the relationship between the two of you. Research shows that the stronger the relationship between client and clinician is, the better the outcome. We want to hear all about you and your story so far so that we can learn exactly what your strengths are, as well as the things that keep you stuck.
Building Self Awareness
Self awareness is the key to personal growth. If we don't understand ourselves, how can we truly change? Together we will examine your hopes and dreams, your past and present, your painful places, your family, your ideology, your true purpose, and the ways in which you might be holding yourself back.
Changing the Narrative
Everyone in the world tells themselves a story about who they are, and most think that story is set in stone. Nothing could be further from the truth. Once we understand the stories we believe about ourselves and why we believe them, we are empowered to challenge, and more importantly, change them. With the right support, you can finally become the main character of your own unique and special life.
Change takes time
As you unravel the mystery of yourself you will find a great deal of both inspiration and comfort in the therapeutic process. The relationship you develop with your therapist will be unlike any other you've had in your life, and we will be there to support you 100% until you think your work is done.
