Find Real, Long-Lasting Relief From Depression
People often misunderstand depression as just feeling “blue” or down in the dumps, but it’s so much more complicated than that. Long story short, depression sucks. It can rob you of peace, hope, and happiness, of your ability to connect with other people, and even your will to live.
Depression is one of the most common and the most dangerous of mental health issues— the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) reports an average of 123 suicides per day— and the vast majority of those deaths could be prevented with proper treatment.
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) lists the symptoms of depression as the following:
- Feelings of hopelessness, or pessimism
- Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” mood
- Irritability
- Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness
- Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities
- Decreased energy or fatigue
- Moving or talking more slowly
- Feeling restless or having trouble sitting still
- Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions
- Difficulty sleeping, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping
- Appetite and/or weight changes
- Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts
- Aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems without a clear physical cause and/or that do not ease even with treatment.
NIMH stresses that you don’t have to have all of these symptoms to be diagnosed with depression, but that if you can identify at least three things on this list that are not going away, depression is probably what you’re dealing with.
If so, Sound Mind Counseling can help. We specialize in treating depression by using an evidence-based approach that both unravels the root cause of the problem and helps clients learn targeted skills that allow them to better manage moods. You can expect not just relief, but to reclaim your life, your relationships, and your sense of purpose and joy.
Freedom from depression is possible. If you’re overwhelmed and exhausted from your own suffering, reaching out to a professional could be the single most important, most powerful thing you ever do. Give us a call today to get started.
Establishing a Connection
You and your therapist are about to embark on a deep and meaningful journey. The very first task at hand is developing the relationship between the two of you. Research shows that the stronger the relationship between client and clinician is, the better the outcome. We want to hear all about you and your story so far so that we can learn exactly what your strengths are, as well as the things that keep you stuck.
Building Self Awareness
Self awareness is the key to personal growth. If we don't understand ourselves, how can we truly change? Together we will examine your hopes and dreams, your past and present, your painful places, your family, your ideology, your true purpose, and the ways in which you might be holding yourself back.
Changing the Narrative
Everyone in the world tells themselves a story about who they are, and most think that story is set in stone. Nothing could be further from the truth. Once we understand the stories we believe about ourselves and why we believe them, we are empowered to challenge, and more importantly, change them. With the right support, you can finally become the main character of your own unique and special life.
Change takes time
As you unravel the mystery of yourself you will find a great deal of both inspiration and comfort in the therapeutic process. The relationship you develop with your therapist will be unlike any other you've had in your life, and we will be there to support you 100% until you think your work is done.
